The Republic of the Philippines is an island country in Southeast Asia located in the Pacific Ocean. It’s made up of about 7,641 islands, making it the 2nd-largest archipelago in the world and is the 13th-most populated country. It’s one of the few megadiverse countries in the world and contains two-thirds of the earth's biodiversity with a climate that’s usually hot and humid.
The Philippines have a tumultuous history and due to waves of migrations, invasions, and colonialism Filipino culture and peoples are a mix of Eastern and Western cultures and ethnicities. You’ll find Malay, Taiwanese, and Indigenous Negrito heritage here as well as American and Spanish influences. The latter resulted in the country becoming the only majority Christian nation in Asia, where 80% of its population identifies as Roman Catholic despite officially being a secular state.
